The liturgical ministry of the deacon is distinct from an ordained priestly ministry, as they have different roles within the ministry, and also support the priests in their role. Deacons are a permanent, stable rank of the hierarchy, and are not ‘priests-in-waiting’ as referred to by some within the Church.
